Faculty of Medicine of Otto von Guericke University

The Alma Mater in Magdeburg is one of Germany's newest universities. On 3 October 1993, Magdeburg's Technical University, Teacher Training College and Academy of Medicine merged to formOtto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

Every winter semester around 190 students are enrolled on the course in Human Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine. A great advantage for the medical training here is the contiguous campus in the south of the state capital, on which all classes and lectures take place and where the Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Medicine is also based (student body - medicine.

The research profile of the Faculty of Medicine is characterised by the two main areas of research: the neurosciences and immunology including the molecular medicine of inflammation. These two areas of emphasis benefit from excellent networking at both regional and international level, and have successfully acquired third-party funding at national level and from the EU. The common objective is to develop new therapies and implement them for patients.

Every year numerous academic symposia, conferences, guest lectures and further education events are held, in which scientists from both home and abroad take part (see Events and Press Releases). The doctors working in Magdeburg are involved in a constant, world-wide exchange of knowledge and experience, and many of them are invited to take part in external conferences. The Faculty of Medicine is frequently also a point of reference for doctors who have settled in the region. Further education and training events here are used to convey and share the latest medical insights.
