Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h. c. Hans-Jochen Heinze
Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h. c. Heinze has been Chairman of the Executive Board and Medical Director of Magdeburg University Hospital since March 2019. As Chairman of the Board, Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h. c. Heinze represents the University Hospital Magdeburg in all matters. He is responsible for coordinating patient care at the hospital and ensures that patients receive care in all clinical disciplines in line with the latest medical knowledge and in accordance with scientific and economic requirements.
After training as a specialist in neurology and completing his habilitation, Prof. Dr. Heinze attended a two-year research stay in 1987. University of California in San Diego. In 1993, he joined the newly founded Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg as Clinic Director for Neurology. There he was instrumental in establishing the neuroscientific focus. Since 2005, he has also headed the Department of Behavioral Neurology at the Leibniz-Institut für Neurobiologie Magdeburg (LIN). From 2005 - 2011, he was a member of the Senate and the main committee of the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft. As Chairman of the Medical Committee of the German Council of Science and Humanities, he evaluated numerous university hospitals from 2010 to 2016 and contributed to the German Council of Science and Humanities' key recommendations on university medicine. Prof. Dr. Heinze is also a member of the Leopoldina, der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, the Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur and the Wissenschaftlichen Kommission Niedersachsen.
