The hospital cooperation pools the specialist expertise of the leading hospitals in the neighboring two of five planning regions in Saxony-Anhalt: Magdeburg and Harz.
The collaboration, which was launched on July 1, 2024, aims to secure and improve medical care for the population in the long term through mutual support. It takes into account the demographic and economic challenges. In view of the dramatic shortage of specialists, particularly in the area of doctors and nurses, healthcare provision is also to be ensured across regions. The cooperation is also intended to support both facilities in meeting the requirements of the hospital reform and the state report in the best possible way. The closer cooperation is intended to develop joint services in individual specialist areas in future and create new synergies.
The focus is particularly on projects in the areas of teleradiology, the Saxony-Anhalt North stroke network, the provision of services in the reprocessing unit for medical products (AEMP), in the laboratory and in pathology.
Marco Bohn, Commercial Director of Magdeburg University Hospital, says: “This realignment means that both facilities can offer a coordinated range of services. It ranges from maximum university care to specialist clinical care and is tailored to the individual treatment pathways of patients.”
Dr. Matthias Voth, Managing Director of the Harzklinikum, adds: “This cooperation is intended to support each other and help us to cope even better with the complex and diverse challenges in the healthcare market. In view of the challenges facing clinics throughout Germany, it is essential to pull together and pool resources.”
The cooperation at clinic level is intended to promote and continue a continuous professional exchange through joint events as well as further and advanced training.
