The Medical Faculty and University Clinic (a legal institution under public law) introduces itself
|
The alma mater in Magdeburg is one of the youngest universities in Germany. On the 3rd October 1993 the Technical University, the College of Education and the Medical Academy of Magdeburg united to form the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg. The establishment sees itself as a modern university, where the versatile potential of interdisciplinary research projects also increasingly comes to fruition. The Medical Faculty and/or the University of Magdeburg Clinic currently consist of 21 institutes and 24 clinics as well as a great variety of central facilities. Annually, approximately 185 students enrol for the course in human medicine. A great advantage for the training is the territorially compact campus, where all courses take place and which accommodates the Dean of studies' office for the Medical Faculty (medical science). |

The research profile of the Medical Faculty is characterized by two emphases in research
The transfer of knowledge, applied research and the exchange of practical learning and theoretical science are becoming increasingly important. An example of these efforts which has become a reality is the ZENIT project. Starting from an initiative backed up by the Faculty of Medicine a centre for neuroscience-related technology and innovation was designed and built on the campus. At this modern location, scientists develop new, economically viable products and processes which provide Saxony-Anhalt with further impetus in its claim as a federal state for research. For the implementation of this objective, close cross-faculty cooperation between research, clinical medicine and medium-sized industry is something that will be expanded in the future. Each year, many scientific symposia, conferences, guest lectures and training events take place involving scientists from home and abroad (see events and press releases). The doctors working in Magdeburg permanently exchange their knowledge and experience around the world, many of them being invited to participate in foreign congresses. In many ways, the Medical Faculty is also a focal point for practicing physicians in the region. The latest in medical knowledge is taught and exchanged here in training events. |

As part of the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg, the Faculty of Medicine has its Campus to the south of the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt. The Medical Academy was founded in September 1954, and for many years the clinic has been a familiar starting point for patients in the region. Since 1st January 2006, the University Clinic Magdeburg has had the status of a legal institution under public law. Each year more than 150 000 patients receive outpatient and inpatient care in the specialist clinics. In this maximum care hospital, the high intensity of clinical care is expressed in a quality of patient care which is recognized (see patient information). The specific emphasis of the Medical Faculty is characterized by its research achievements, the academic training of doctors and the treatment of serious illnesses. Approx. 3 000 employees work here as doctors, scientists, nurses and administrative staff.
