Information on specialization training (Facharztausbildung) or employment at the University Hospital Magdeburg
Studies of Human Medicine end in Germany with the State Exam. All further education is offered directly in the hospital departments. The Facharztausbildung (medical specialization training) which follows usually the State Exam takes between 4-6 years.
For foreign graduates it is only possible to be admitted to the Facharztausbildung or to be employed as a physician after having obtained the following documents:
The permission to practise as physician is only given under special conditions. Generally speaking chances are better to obtain this permission if you are EU-citizen, married to a German. Specific information is available at:

You should count several months for this bureaucratic procedure. Citizens of EU-member states usually encounter no problems.
