World Pancreatic Cancer Day on November 20, 2025

Every year in November, World Pancreatic Cancer Day raises awareness worldwide of one of the most aggressive types of cancer. What began in 2014 with the purple illumination of the Ludwigsburg Music Hall has now become an international solidarity campaign. Magdeburg University Hospital is also setting an example once again: on November 20, the elevator shaft in Building 60a will once again be illuminated in bright purple.

Research that directly reaches people

With the new ERDF-funded project “KSMED,” Magdeburg University Hospital is driving forward the development of innovative therapies. By expanding its own clinical studies on cancer, fatigue, chronic pain, and hereditary gallstone disease, among other things, and establishing modern research structures, medical findings are expected to be incorporated into healthcare much more quickly in the future.

round 500 guests attended the 25th “Active Against Cancer” information day at Magdeburg's Johanniskirche on November 15, 2025. The anniversary event of the Tumorzentrum Magdeburg/Sachsen-Anhalt e. V. (Magdeburg/Saxony-Anhalt Tumor Center) offered a diverse program that provided opportunities for discussion, consultation, and up-to-date information on prevention, early detection, and modern cancer therapies.

On November 17, Magdeburg University Hospital will be sending a bright signal for the little ones: on World Prematurity Day 2025, the front of the University Women's Hospital will be bathed in bright purple from 3 p.m. onwards – the international symbolic color for premature babies.

Production site for modern, precise cancer drugs comes to Saxony-Anhalt: Magdeburg University Hospital welcomes expansion of “radioligand therapy” in Saxony-Anhalt

Magdeburg University Medical Center (UMMD) welcomes Novartis Germany's decision to establish a new production site for radioligand therapeutics in Halle (Saale). With an investment of around €34.6 million, the company is strengthening the region and promoting the development of innovative cancer therapies. Radioligand therapy is already being used successfully at UMMD.
