The hospital Sudenburg was opened on December 1, 1891. It was renamed to Medical Academy Magdeburg in 1954. The biggest building project was house 60. In April 1998, the ground was broken. The last construction phase was completed in September 2006. Our trauma department was and is located in this house.

Since the foundation of the Medical Academy Magdeburg, the study of medicine in its full spectrum, in clinic and preclinical are offered. The Surgical Clinic has undergone continuous development under the professors Prof. Lemke, Prof. Heinrich, Prof. Lippert and Prof. Bruns. As of 2017, Prof. Croner is the director of the Clinic for General, Visceral and Vascular Surgery.

The Department of Traumatology was developed and run by Prof. Winckler from 1995 to 2014 as an independent clinic. As of May 1, 2014, Prof. Walcher, a former senior consultant at the University Hospital Frankfurt / Main, is the director of the clinic.
