As Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dieterich has represented all matters relating to research and teaching on the hospital's Executive Board since September 2020.

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Daniela C. Dieterich studied biochemistry at the Universität Hannover specializing in biochemistry, biophysical chemistry and pharmacology. After her diploma, she started as a doctoral student in the Department of Neurochemistry at the Magdeburger Leibniz-Institut für Neurobiologie (LIN). She was then a postdoctoral researcher at the California Institute for Technology, Division of Biology, sponsored by the Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina. In 2008, she was accepted into the Emmy Noether Program of the German Research Foundation and founded an independent junior research group at LIN. Since 2012, she has headed the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and is still associated with the LIN. She has held the position of Dean of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg since 2020. The neuroscientist is co-spokesperson of the DFG-Graduiertenkollegs „SynAGE – Die alternde Synapse“ and part of the speaker team of the Center for Behavioral Brain Sciences (CBBS). From 2020 to 2024, she was a review board member of the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) iin the field of molecular biology and physiology of nerve and glial cells. She has been a member of the DFG Senate Committee for Collaborative Research Centers (SFB) since 2024. Her scientific interests focus on research into neuronal damage and synaptic plasticity.
