Support for foreign students
International students help international freshers
The Medical Faculty of Magdeburg offers special tutorials (study groups) for the international students. It is not easy to study in a foreign language, in a foreign country with a culture that can be very different from your own. Therefore, the tutorials were designed to give international students the support they need during their first year of study.
The study groups meet once a week during the semester. Tutors are foreign students who have already passed the first state exam. They explain the difficult subject matter of the courses to the new students, but they also offer valuable advice on learning strategies and study organization.
In addition, international students have the opportunity to clarify organizational issues and report on successes and problems through meetings with the International Office.

IKUS - Intercultural Student Organization at Otto von Guericke University
IKUS is an intercultural student organization that supports international students in Magdeburg and brings them together with German students.
IKUS regularly organizes parties, intercultural country evenings, excursions and much more...
It also offers ongoing advice and support for international students in Magdeburg.
Volunteers also provide support with the first steps in Germany.
This includes dealing with authorities, providing advice and help with questions and problems relating to studying in Magdeburg and organizing welcome weeks for freshers.
The aim is to make it easier for international students to settle into their new life/life in Magdeburg, to integrate into the German community and to promote intercultural friendships.
We recommend that all international students, especially, but not only first-year students, take part in IKUS events.
They offer an excellent opportunity to network and exchange ideas with (international) students from other faculties.
