Fünf Jahre Neuroonkologisches Zentrum: Informationsveranstaltung zeigt vielfältige Facetten der Patientenbetreuung
The Neurooncology Centre, which is certified by the German Cancer Society (DKG), is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year - a significant milestone for the specialist departments involved and an occasion to look back on what has been achieved so far with justifiable pride.
To mark its fifth anniversary, the Neuro-oncology Centre is opening its doors for an information event on 28 May 2025. Under the direction of Prof Erol I. Sandalcioglu, visitors will gain an insight into the daily work of an interdisciplinary team that has an impact far beyond medical treatment. The focus is not on individual therapeutic procedures, but on the interaction between different specialist areas and the people whose commitment enables holistic care for patients. Further information can be found in the Flyer.
All interested persons, patients and medical professionals are cordially invited to this free event.
- Topic: The Neurooncology Centre introduces itself
- When: Wednesday, 28 May 2025, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
- Where: House 7 | Auditorium, Campus University Medicine Magdeburg
The Neurooncology Centre at Magdeburg University Medical Centre (UMMD) is an interdisciplinary centre for the diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of benign and malignant brain and spinal cord tumours in cancer patients. Specialists from neurosurgery, oncology, radiology, radiotherapy and neurology work closely together to develop an individually tailored therapy for each patient within the framework of so-called tumour boards - with the aim of maintaining the best possible quality of life and chances of survival.
The event begins with a welcome from the coordinator of the Neurooncology Centre, Dr Klaus-Peter Stein, and the head of oncology nursing, Diana Lang. Participants will then be given practical insights into the various areas of patient care.
One focus will be on specialist oncological care, where key questions will be discussed, such as what special skills characterise this specialist care and how to ensure specialised and empathetic care.
In addition, psycho-oncological support will be discussed, including how those affected deal with the anxiety associated with the tumour disease and what role psychological support plays in giving space to these fears and overcoming them.
Another focus is on clinical social work at the centre. The challenges and opportunities that arise in this area and how social work supports patients and their relatives will be discussed.

Palliative care and dealing with the needs of those affected also play a central role in care.
The programme will conclude with an outlook on care research, with a focus on quality of life and self-help after brain tumour surgery - and the question of how care can be further improved and those affected can be given targeted support.
The event will end with a discussion and closing remarks. The aim is to focus on the interdisciplinary interaction and the strong network for holistic care at the Neurooncology Centre.
