Magdeburg University Medical Center puts new linear accelerator into operation
With the ceremonial commissioning of a state-of-the-art linear accelerator on October 6, 2025, Magdeburg University Hospital took a significant step forward for oncological care in Saxony-Anhalt. The high-end device enables exact and gentle radiation therapy, offering patients better chances of recovery and a higher quality of life.
The state of Saxony-Anhalt provided approximately €5.3 million for the project, including €2.0 million for equipment costs and €3.3 million for structural modifications. This investment positions Magdeburg as one of the leading radiation therapy centers in Germany.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Heinze, Medical Director of Magdeburg University Hospital, emphasized the medical significance: “The new linear accelerator significantly expands our technical capabilities. We can now offer treatment procedures that were previously only available in a few centers in Germany. For our patients, this means state-of-the-art cancer therapies at the highest level – right here in Magdeburg.”
The device is also of great scientific importance, as the linear accelerator will enhance the research landscape in Saxony-Anhalt in the long term, supporting both clinical therapy and modern oncological research.
