Magdeburg University Medical Centre integrates medical facilities belonging to the Pfeifferschen Stiftungen – new names from 1 August 2025
On 1 August 2025, Magdeburg University Hospital A.ö.R. will complete the previously announced integration of the three medical facilities belonging to the Pfeifferschen Stiftungen. The visible sign of the merger is their new logos:
- Cracau Clinic at Pfeiffers, Magdeburg University Hospital
- Lostau Lung Clinic, Magdeburg University Hospital
- MVZ of the Cracau Clinic of Magdeburg University Medical Centre
The two hospitals will operate as non-profit limited liability companies on a one-off basis; the MVZ will be integrated into the hospital network. With the integration, the clinics will complete their restructuring and self-administration procedures as planned on 31 July 2025 and, together with Magdeburg University Hospital, will open a new chapter in strengthening regional healthcare.
Internet Accessibility
From 1 August 2025, the new facilities will be accessible under their own domains: www.klinikum-cracau.de and www.mvz-cracau.de. The established address www.lungenklinik-lostau.de will remain in place and will be technically taken over by Magdeburg University Hospital. During the transition phase, all previous websites will automatically forward enquiries to the new sites.
The familiar telephone numbers and email addresses will continue to work; only after the technical changeover has been completed will the email addresses be gradually adapted to the new domains. We will provide information about changes in good time on the websites, via notices in the buildings and via local media. The signage on site and in the city area will also be updated gradually – patients and visitors do not need to take any action.
Important: Emergency numbers, central appointment hotlines and opening hours will remain unchanged, so that continuous medical care is guaranteed at all times.

Catering services at the Cracau Clinic
The cafeteria at Cracau Hospital will remain open without interruption after 1 August 2025. With our seamless change of operator, we are carefully modernising the offering – from a fresh room design to an expanded menu based on the proven campus concept of university medicine. Employees and visitors will continue to be catered for on site without interruption; necessary renovations will be carried out in parallel with daily operations. Our entire team at the location will ensure service and quality so that all employees and patients feel comfortable. The cafeteria's opening hours will be consolidated step by step until the end of September. We also want to improve the quality of stay in Lostau and are aiming to reopen the cafeteria in the medium term.
Opinioms on integration
‘The integration of the facilities is a sign of stability and reliability in medical care in the region. Together with our new employees, we want to secure structures, leverage synergies and create economically viable solutions – for modern, accessible medicine in Saxony-Anhalt.’
Marco Bohn, Commercial Director, UMMD
‘From the outset, it was important to us that the integration should not be a break, but a joint new beginning. We are not only taking on responsibility, but also building on what the Pfeifferschen Stiftungen have created over decades. The experience and attitude of the employees are an asset for university medicine – and for the people in the region.’
Prof. Dr. med. H.J. Heinze, Medical Director UMMD
