Goodbye and see you again for 193 young medical talents from Magdeburg
The University Medicine Magdeburg is releasing a new class of licensed doctors into professional life.
An important phase ended for a total of 193 students with the completion of their medical studies at the Faculty of Medicine at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in 2023. One hundred sixty-four graduates were once again released into professional life at a ceremony in the AMO Kulturhaus Magdeburg on 15 December. In spring, 29 medical students had already completed their human medicine studies.
The graduates received their certificates from the Dean, Prof. Dr. Daniela C. Dieterich. She emphasized: "We look back on your impressive study journey with great joy and respect. Your perseverance and dedication have brought you here. Today, we are not only celebrating your successful graduation but also the promising start to your professional career. The job will demand a lot from you. But you are fulfilling an important task for society by providing a vital service as a doctor, taking on responsibility, and also helping to shape medical progress. We wish you all the best for this new phase of your life and hope you will remain connected to your alma mater after graduation."

Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Heinze, Medical Director of the University Hospital Magdeburg A.ö.R., gave the keynote speech this year and explained: "The world of medicine has changed enormously over the past 50 years. Today, we are facing completely new challenges and opportunities together. I, therefore, encourage you to pursue your dreams and actively shape the next 50 years with your knowledge and, last but not least, with dedication, love, and enthusiasm for this profession." The ceremony, which brought together almost 500 guests, was accompanied by music from the University of Magdeburg's academic orchestra under the direction of Mauro Mariani.
Of the 164 graduates in the winter semester, including more women than men, 39 are from Saxony-Anhalt, and 7 are internationals. The best graduate was Florian Andreas Fritz Sprenger.
Outstanding lecturers were also honored at the ceremony. This year's teaching awards went to Prof. Dr. Herrmann-Josef Rothkötter for the pre-clinical part of the course, Prof. Dr. Alexander Link for the clinical part of the course, and Prof. Dr. Dr. Anne Albrecht for her exceptional commitment to teaching. Prof. Dr. Andreas Müller was nominated as best lecturer, and Prof. Dr. Burkhard Schraven for his extraordinary commitment to teaching on the Master's degree course in Immunology. These awards will not be presented until June 2024.
