Successful start: First interprofessional training project from 12-14 May 2025

15.05.2025 -

From 12 to 14 May 2025, the first interprofessional training project of the Training Centre for Healthcare Professions (AZG) took place with great success. A total of 82 trainees from the fields of nursing, medical technologists for laboratory analysis (MTL), operating theatre assistants (OTA) and anaesthetics assistants (ATA) from the first two years of training took part. The aim of the three project days was to intensively test and reflect on the cooperation between the healthcare professions using a practical case study.

Interprofessional learning at eye level

The participants worked together in eight interprofessional learning groups on a case study on perioperative patient care. They were given a specially developed workbook with key questions to guide them through the three days. This enabled the trainees to familiarise themselves with job-specific tasks, identify interprofessional interfaces and impart knowledge and skills from their respective specialist areas to each other - from trainee to trainee.

A practical, versatile programme

The event kicked off on Monday, 12 May 2025, with a joint introduction in lecture theatre 7 on the UMMD campus. This was followed by a visit to the AZG training centre, where the groups carried out initial activities in the laboratory and preparatory group work. On Tuesday, the focus was on practical work: the nursing, OTA and ATA trainees carried out typical professional activities, followed by an intensive group work phase in the afternoon. The last day was characterised by joint case work, the presentation of the group results in creative formats and a final reflection on the trainees' own skills development.

Shared responsibility for successful training

The project was prepared by an interdisciplinary group of teachers from all participating departments in close consultation with the school management. During the three days, teaching staff and the central practical instructor of the ATA training programme supported the groups in the practical exercises.

A step towards the future

The feedback from the participants was consistently positive: they particularly appreciated the insights into other professions, the collegial dialogue and the practical teamwork. The interprofessional training project has laid a promising foundation for future learning formats - an important step towards the networked, co-operative patient care of tomorrow.
