Magdeburg Intensive Care Day 2026

Under the apt theme “Nursing requires staying power—and we have it”, the Magdeburg Intensive Care Day on September 1, 2026 brought together dedicated professionals from the fields of nursing, therapy, and medicine in the New Lecture Hall (Building 7) at Magdeburg University Medical Center.

Following the opening remarks by Director of Nursing Christine Michelfeit-Schaper, the lecture program offered in-depth insights into cutting-edge topics in intensive care medicine. Topics discussed included the transition from external to self-governance in nursing, concepts for a family-friendly intensive care unit, and new professional roles such as Advanced Practice Nursing and continuing education in respiratory therapy. Psychological care in intensive care units and current research findings on intensive care follow-up clinics also generated significant interest.

A central element of the day was the hands-on workshops held in two sessions at our SkillsLab. From emergency training and interprofessional ECMO care to NIV training, dysphagia management, and oral care, as well as ethical considerations, the sessions provided valuable insights directly applicable to everyday clinical practice.

The breaks were put to good use for professional exchanges and visits to the trade exhibition. The event impressively demonstrated how interprofessional collaboration and continuous professional development strengthen modern critical care.
