Well-Attended Patient Event on Lung Cancer at Magdeburg University Medical Center
On September 30, 2026, the Lung Cancer Center at Magdeburg University Medical Center provided patients, family members, and interested members of the public with information on modern diagnostic and treatment options for lung cancer. The well-attended event, held in the Central Lecture Hall on the University Medical Center campus, not only offered up-to-date medical information but, above all, provided ample opportunity for personal interaction.
The date of the event was deliberately chosen: It took place during EU Screening Week 2026, which is supported by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the European Lung Foundation (ELF) as part of the “Healthy Lungs for Life” campaign. Experts in pathology, pulmonology, radiation therapy, and thoracic surgery clearly explained the various steps involved, from diagnosis to individually tailored treatment.
The focus included, among other things, pathological diagnostics, the process of radiation therapy and lung cancer surgery, as well as modern drug treatment options. In addition to chemotherapy, these include, in particular, immunotherapies and targeted therapies, which are playing an increasingly important role for suitable patients.
The high level of engagement from visitors was particularly encouraging. Patients and their families took the opportunity to ask numerous questions and engage directly with the experts. The lively discussion highlighted the significant interest in clear and reliable information about lung cancer and current treatment options.
The event also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration for modern, personalized care. Close coordination among the various medical specialties makes it possible to develop treatment plans for people with lung cancer that are tailored to their specific condition and personal circumstances.
