From September 18 to 19, 2025, leading experts from research and clinical practice met in Magdeburg to discuss current findings and transfer strategies for gender-sensitive care.

Under the auspices of the German Society for Gender-Specific Medicine (DGesGM), Congress President Prof. Ute Seeland, MD, together with Magdeburg University Medical Center (UMMD) and Otto von Guericke Transfer and Project Management GmbH (OVGU GmbH), hosted the 11th International Congress of the International Society for Gender Medicine (IGM) at Johanniskirche.

Under the motto “Advancing Gender and Sex Specific Medicine from Lab to Life,” leading experts gathered to discuss the latest developments in gender-specific medicine in Magdeburg.

“The IGM Congress offers a unique opportunity to pool gender-sensitive research and develop concrete ways in which these findings can be incorporated into daily patient care,” said Prof. Ute Seeland, MD.

The program focused on highlighting the differences between the sexes in the development of diseases and in response to treatments in various specialist areas.

The congress brought together science, clinical practice, and health policy from eleven nations to present the latest research findings on gender-sensitive medicine. Renowned speakers such as Sabra Klein, Marianne J. Legato, and Ashlyn Swift-Gallant gave keynote speeches providing important insights into immunology, interdisciplinarity, intersectionality, and neurocognitive manifestations in connection with the significance of gender-specific differences in medical care. The systemic biological view of cardiovascular diseases and cancer genesis was also a focus, as was prevention. In addition to the presentations, the congress offered interactive workshops, including one on the use of digitalization and AI in healthcare from a gender-sensitive perspective. Another workshop was dedicated to researching gender, sexuality, and health in times of climate change.

There were special program items for young medical professionals, which were marked as “Highlights for the young community.” As part of the “Clinical Implementation Track,” young scientists had the opportunity to address their questions directly to experts.
