Cryopreservation is the freezing and storage of cells or tissue in cryogenic liquid nitrogen (-196°C). In this state, the sample can be stored for a very long time. After thawing, the cell or tissue should regain its previous physiology. To minimize cell damage caused by ice crystals, specific antifreeze agents are added to the sample.
