11th Pediatric Anesthesia Day in Magdeburg
Experts discussed new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for various childhood diseases and led an interactive workshop on the topic of "Interdisciplinary pediatric emergencies".
On January 20, the 11th Pediatric Anaesthesia Day of the University Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care took place at the Gesellschaftshaus am Klosterbergegarten in Magdeburg. Prof. Dr. med. Dr. Thomas Hachenberg, Director of the University Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy in Magdeburg, in Magdeburg and Dr. med. Selinde Mertz, Senior Physician in Paediatric Anaesthesia, both responsible for the scientific management of the event, had invited a large number of doctors and nursing staff to take part.
The event began at 8:00 a.m. with an interactive workshop on the topic of "Interdisciplinary pediatric emergencies". At 10:00 a.m., Prof. Hachenberg opened the event together with Dr. Mertz. This was followed by a welcome address from the President of the Medical Association of Saxony-Anhalt, Prof. Dr. Uwe Ebmeyer. The President of the Medical Association, Prof. Ebmeyer, and Prof. Hachenberg emphasized the particular importance of the need for good care for children in our federal state and the joint efforts to further improve structures in order to guarantee high-quality care for children.

The subsequent lectures from the fields of pediatric surgery, pediatric anesthesia, pediatric ophthalmology and pediatric intensive care medicine offered a wide-ranging, interdisciplinary program with experts from Germany and Switzerland.
The opening lecture dealt with the situation of medical care for children in Afghanistan under the title "Pediatric Medicine in Afghanistan", presented by Dr. Salmai Turial, Head Physician of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Traumatology and Pediatric Urology at Magdeburg University Hospital.
Other topics at the symposium included "Securing the airway and ventilation", presented by Dr. Julius Wermelt from Frankfurt am Main and a lecture on volume therapy in children by Dr. Sylvia Kramer, Charité Berlin. Dr. Claudia Schuart, Senior Physician at the University Eye Clinic in Magdeburg, reported on the topic "Small eyes, big worries: What do we have to operate on in pediatric ophthalmology?" Dr. Gert Warncke, Head of Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine at the University Children's Hospital in Magdeburg, provided information on the latest developments in pediatric intensive care medicine.

Two particularly exciting presentations on the topics of "Working in a team" by the pediatric surgeon from Frankfurt am Main, Prof. Dr. Udo Rolle, and Dr. Martin Jöhr from Lucerne on "Management of difficult situations in pediatric anesthesia" brought the event to a close.
The next Pediatric Anesthesiology Day at the University Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy Magdeburg will take place on 18.01.2025.
