A club for all!

03.01.2023 -

Even though the demanding medical studies impose a tight schedule, most students still find time to party. On the medical campus of the University of Magdeburg, the student club Kiste e.V. is known for its legendary party culture. But what many people don't know is that, in addition to parties and the like, the club offers many other activities and events with the help of student involvement.

Those who would like to get involved in the community can participate in the language café, for example. There, international students who do not speak German and who may still be new to Germany are offered an opportunity to exchange and practice the language. "Integration is an important concern for us. The Kiste is a club for everyone," Christian Hirthe tells us. He has been on the Kiste board since October 2022 and is a 5th-year medical student. "Regardless of whether students, clinic employees, trainees or completely outsiders, we are happy about every visitor and hope to be able to offer a little change from the stressful everyday life!"

Classic knowledge offerings are also provided in the crate. "Anyone who is not yet challenged enough with factual knowledge in their daily clinical routine can drop by the crate and present all the general and not-so-general knowledge he or she has to offer," reports Lisa Harling, the club's media officer. This can be combined wonderfully with a snack or drink at student-friendly prices. "We offer coffee and snacks for a slim penny every day during weekday lecture hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The couches are ready and waiting for a little break and a chat."

According to Harling, the party highlight that you should have experienced during your medical studies in the crate is definitely the annual big carnival party. It is always held on November 11. For this to succeed, many creative minds are always needed. That's because the entire interior of the student club is painted within a few weeks to match the annual theme, decorated with papier-mâché sculptures and transformed into an unrecognizable fantasy world. "So anyone who likes to paint, do handicrafts or just wants to have a go is welcome to join us and give free rein to his or her creative energy. Plenty of snacks and drinks will be provided, of course."

For those who like it more cozy and informal, the crate cinema is probably just the thing. "We show blockbusters there every Wednesday in a cozy atmosphere," says Harling.

The crate is looking forward to your visit!
