Donation for the Magdeburger Förderkreis krebskranker Kinder e.V.
University Medicine Magdeburg presents a donation check in the amount of 7,000 euros
The Executive Board of the University Hospital Magdeburg used the upcoming festive season as an opportunity to present the Magdeburger Förderkreis krebskranker Kinder e.V. with a donation of 7,000 euros. This sum resulted from the donations received on the occasion of the milestone birthday of Professor Heinze, Medical Director of Magdeburg University Hospital. Professor Heinze decided to forego personal gifts in order to make a donation to the Magdeburg support group for children with cancer instead. The guests complied with his wish, enabling this sum to be raised for the important association.

Professor Heinze was very pleased and said: "The suffering of parents who have a child with cancer is great due to social and financial problems. I am delighted that we can support the association in numerous projects with our donation. It is not only psychosocial care that is becoming increasingly important alongside medical and nursing care, but also the greater involvement of parents. Financial support makes it possible for parents to stay in the family home, which allows them to be closer to their children in the clinic. The child experiences a feeling of security through the proximity to the parents. The children can therefore better tolerate the medical treatment."
Professor Uwe Mittler, the former head of the Clinic for Pediatric Haematology and Oncology at Magdeburg University Hospital, laid the foundations for the establishment of the parent support association "Magdeburger Förderkreis krebskranker Kinder e.V." back in 1990. In September 2006, the parents' house for children with cancer was officially opened in Magdeburg. The financial means for the construction of the parents' house were provided by the Magdeburger Förderkreis krebskranker Kinder e.V.. When the house was built in 2004, the association established the "Elternhaus am Universitätsklinikum Magdeburg" foundation, which has been responsible for the long-term financial security and organization of the parents' house ever since.
