First blood donation day was a complete success
On January 31, 2024, the first joint blood donation event was held by the German Red Cross (DRK) in collaboration with the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology with Blood Bank (ITIB) at Magdeburg University Hospital. According to the DRK, the event was a great success, as 96 donors, including 51 regular donors, came to the event. Many of the donors are pleased that blood can continue to be donated reliably at Magdeburg University Hospital in the future. The DRK thanked the University Medical Center's blood bank for the excellent preparation of the blood donation day. The donors also expressed great praise for the organization, support and on-site snacks provided by the blood bank.
This first DRK donation date also marks the start of a blood donation month in Magdeburg in February.In addition to the regular blood donation events at the university blood bank, which take place every Wednesday and Friday, three further events are planned in the city.
The partnership between the German Red Cross and the ITIB aims to pool resources and strengths in order to ensure the long-term security of the blood supply. The existing infrastructure will be optimized through the joint use of both cooperation partners.
