Interdisciplinary spine symposium in Magdeburg

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Magdeburg Interdisciplinary Spine Symposium will take place from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the new lecture hall in House 7 on the campus of the University Medical Center. Prof. Dr. med. Christoph H. Lohmann, Director of the Orthopaedic University Clinic, Prof. Dr. med. Erol Sandalcioglu, Director of the Department of Neurosurgery, and Prof. Dr. med. Felix Walcher, Director of the Department of Trauma Surgery, cordially invite you to attend. The event is aimed at interested medical colleagues and physiotherapists. Due to epidemiological changes, the causes of diseases of the "spine" are increasing and becoming more diverse. The aim of the event is to provide information on the current status of treatment strategies and methods. The specific aspects will be examined from the perspective of different disciplines.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with a welcome address by Prof. Lohmann, Prof. Walcher and Prof. Sandalcioglu.The six specialist lectures that follow offer a wide-ranging interdisciplinary program with experts from the fields of trauma surgery, orthopaedics and neurosurgery. First, experts from the field of trauma surgery will provide an insight into the topic. Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Piatek, Deputy Director of the Department of Trauma Surgery, will present an update on the guideline "Injury to the thoracolumbar spine". Prof. Walcher explains the most important aspects of spinal injury management in the context of polytrauma treatment.

The experts from the Orthopaedic University Hospital Magdeburg will provide insights from their specialist disciplines in their lectures on "Treatment concepts for degenerative scoliosis", presented by Dr. Christian Riediger, Senior Physician in the Spinal Surgery Department, and "Conservative therapy for spinal pain: What's new?", presented by Dr. Margit Rudolf, Head of the Orthopaedic Outpatient Clinic.

Dr. Ardeshir Ardeshiri, guest speaker from Hamburg, will report on technological advances and limitations in spinal surgery. Privatdozent Dr. med. Klaus-Peter Stein, Deputy Clinic Director of the University Clinic for Neurosurgery in Magdeburg, will focus on "Injuries to the upper spine - treatment concepts for an ageing population", highlighting a current challenge.
