Researchers from the University of Magdeburg elected to the DFG Review Board

The members of the review boards evaluate research proposals and thus assume a central role in the DFG's funding procedures.

Eight scientists from Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg have been elected to the review board of the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) ( German Research Foundation) including five researchers from the Magdeburg University Medical Center.  The review board members thus play an important role in the German scientific community and in ensuring the professional quality of DFG-funded projects. For the next four years from 2024 to 2028, the eight researchers will review and evaluate funding proposals in their respective subject areas and formulate recommendations for the DFG's committees. At the same time, the review board members will advise the DFG on the further development and design of its funding programs.

The following scientists from the University of Magdeburg were elected:

  • Prof. Dr. med. Verena Keitel-Anselmino for the Medical Review Board, Subject: Gastroenterology, Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectiology (re-election)

  • Prof. Dr. med. Peter Mertens for the Review Board of Medicine, Subject: Nephrology, Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital for Kidney and Hypertensive Diseases, Diabetology and Endocrinology

  • Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Daniela C. Dieterich for the Review Board Neurosciences, Subject: Molecular Biology and Physiology of Nerve and Glial Cells, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology (re-election)

  • Prof. Dr. med. Christian Mawrin for the Review Board Neurosciences, Subject: Molecular and Cellular Neurology and Neuropathology, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Neuropathology

  • Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Remy for the Review Board Neurosciences, Subject: Cognitive, Systemic and Behavioral Neurobiology, Faculty of Medicine, Molecular and Cellular Neurosciences/Leibniz Institute of Neurobiology Magdeburg

  • Prof. Dr. Kristine Krug for the Review Board Neurosciences, Subject: Cognitive, Systemic and Behavioral Neurobiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Institute of Biology

  • Prof. Dr. Peter Benner for the Review Board Mathematics, Subject: Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics, Institute for Analysis and Numerics/Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems

  • Dr.-Ing. Tanja Vidakovic-Koch for the Review Board Process Engineering, Technical Chemistry, Subject: Systems Process Engineering, Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering, Institute of Process Engineering/Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems

More than 54,000 researchers took part in the DFG Review Board Election 2023. A total of 1,631 candidates stood for 649 places on the 49 review boards. The final election results will be announced in February.
