Speaker of the Thyroid Section of the German Society of Endocrinology comes from Magdeburg

Prof. Dr. med. Michael Kreißl remains in office for a further three years and continues to support the largest German interdisciplinary research association in the field of thyroid diseases in his role as spokesperson.

Prof. Dr. med. Michael Kreißl, Head of Nuclear Medicine at the University Clinic for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Magdeburg, was unanimously re-elected as spokesperson for the Thyroid Section within the German Society of Endocrinology (DGE) for a further three-year term of office. He has already been spokesperson for this society since December 2020. "I am very happy about the trust placed in me once again and am very much looking forward to working together with the advisory board," said Kreißl.

The DGE is a scientific society and interest group for researchers, teachers and clinicians in the field of hormones and metabolism.

The Thyroid Section within the German Society of Endocrinology brings together recognized experts from various disciplines who deal with the pathophysiology, biochemistry, morphology and clinic of the thyroid gland, both nationally and internationally. The main objective is to initiate and coordinate interdisciplinary projects with a clinical focus. In addition, the section aims to collaborate with other disciplines and working groups with a national and international interest in the thyroid gland.

Prof. Dr. Michael Kreißl has been Head of Nuclear Medicine at Magdeburg University Hospital since 2017 and is an expert in the treatment of advanced thyroid cancer. His research includes the imaging of thyroid nodules, new molecularly oriented nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as well as local therapeutic interdisciplinary approaches.

In addition to his role as spokesperson, Prof. Kreißl heads the Thyroid Committee within the German Society of Nuclear Medicine (DGN) and is a member of the Thyroid Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM). He also acts as a reviewer for numerous specialist journals and is significantly involved in the creation of the first interdisciplinary S3 guideline "Thyroid cancer", both as a representative of nuclear medicine and as head of the working group for initial diagnostics and the diagnosis and treatment of recurrences. In addition, Prof. Kreißl also heads the DKG focus area "Endocrine Malignancies" at the University Medical Center Magdeburg.
