The Commercial Director signs a contract for a further eight years
The Supervisory Board of Magdeburg University Hospital has decided to reappoint Marco Bohn as Commercial Director of Magdeburg University Hospital for a further eight years. In May 2022, Bohn was unanimously appointed Commercial Director by the Supervisory Board of the University Hospital Magdeburg A.ö.R. and thus took over this position until further notice.
As Commercial Director and member of the Executive Board, Marco Bohn has been responsible for the day-to-day administration of Magdeburg University Hospital since May 2022. This includes, in particular, the commercial and administrative management of the University Hospital.
Science Minister Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann explained: "I am delighted that in these challenging times for all university hospitals, we have succeeded in gaining a proven expert in Mr. Bohn, who has already shown at Halle University Hospital that he knows how to work excellently in a complex environment. Together with the Supervisory Board of Magdeburg University Hospital, I look forward to continuing to work with Mr. Bohn. We are convinced that he will make a significant contribution to making the University Hospital competitive and future-proof in the coming years."
Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Jochen Heinze, Medical Director of Magdeburg University Hospital, added: "The Executive Board of Magdeburg University Hospital is delighted to be continuing its collaboration with Mr. Bohn.In challenging and sometimes uncertain times, consistency on the Executive Board is of particular importance. We have already initiated numerous pioneering projects with Marco Bohn, which we can now pursue with stability."

With Marco Bohn's move to Magdeburg University Hospital in spring 2023, a realignment was initiated, which is to be realized through the implementation of a positive future perspective for research, teaching and patient care, but also a long-term restructuring and consolidation plan.
Marco Bohn, Commercial Director of the University Hospital, emphasized: "The challenges we face are present and will accompany us in the coming years. The aim is to reconcile cutting-edge medicine and economic efficiency and to do justice to the role of university medicine in line with the recommendations of the German Council of Science and Humanities. I look forward to helping to shape further development over the next few years - together with our managers, employees, committees and partners."
New projects have already been initiated with regard to medical care and the role of Magdeburg University Medicine. These include close networking with the Pfeiffer Foundations.Both institutions will work together more closely in terms of personnel and expertise in order to take account of the hospital reform and the Saxony-Anhalt state hospital report.Magdeburg University Medicine also favors the same approach in its cooperation with Magdeburg Hospital.
Another project close to the heart of University Medicine Magdeburg is the strengthening of future care in the Altmark region. The Medical Care Center of the University Hospital Magdeburg (MVZ) has expanded its commitment and will ensure outpatient ophthalmological care in Osterburg in the future and will bring some of the university's expertise to the more rural region with innovative telemedical concepts.
In the next few years, measures such as the structural development of the campus are planned.
About the person
Marco Bohn studied business administration in Berlin. He held various management positions at Johanniter and KMG Kliniken before becoming Commercial Director of the Department of Operative Medicine in 2012 and Head of Finance, Planning and Controlling and representative of the Commercial Board at Leipzig University Hospital in 2014 . From 2017, he was Managing Director of Sana Kliniken Berlin-Brandenburg. In 2020, he became Commercial Director and member of the Executive Board of theUniversity Hospital Halle before taking over the same position at the University Hospital Magdeburg in 2022. Marco Bohn is a member of the Finance Committee of the Association of University Hospitals as well as a member of the Executive Board and Advisory Board and Chairman of the Expert Committee for Hospital Financing of the State Hospital Association of Saxony-Anhalt.
