Michael Saffé, Commercial Director of the Pfeiffersche Stiftungen, says: "This further cooperation with University Medicine is an important step for our hospital to prepare itself well for the future and is in line with the planned hospital reform. We stand for quality medicine in conjunction with maximum university medicine by strengthening certain treatment focuses and - through the close connection with university medicine - also further improving our attractiveness as an employer. Last but not least, we are optimizing patient care and the training of specialists in this way."

The visceral surgery specialists at both hospitals have been working closely together since summer 2023. In further steps, cardiology and oral and maxillofacial surgery will now also be included in the cooperation. In addition, the joint service portfolio will be successively developed further in order to sustainably increase the efficiency and quality of healthcare overall.

The overarching goal of the partners' collaboration is to improve patient treatment in terms of care levels in order to ensure high-quality medical care that meets patients' needs. The Pfeiffer Foundations and Magdeburg University Medicine are optimistic about the future in this respect and are convinced that this innovative cooperation will make a lasting contribution to improving healthcare in the region.

Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Jochen Heinze, Medical Director of Magdeburg University Hospital, explains: "This collaboration is another important step for both institutions and a logical consequence of the existing collaboration between Magdeburg University Hospital and the Lostau Lung Clinic.Together with the Pfeiffersche Stiftungen, we want to dovetail our facilities even more closely and thus offer patients an even better service. In addition to the three classic pillars of research, teaching and patient care, Magdeburg University Medicine is also pursuing the much-cited fourth pillar of the Science Council for the coordination of patient care.  Only together will we master the challenges ahead and strengthen healthcare in the state."

On the occasion of the signing of the cooperation agreement, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Magdeburg University Hospital, Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Science, Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann, emphasized: "The cooperation in terms of service structure and patient management strengthens both hospitals as well as healthcare in northern Saxony-Anhalt as a whole. The consistent coordination will also make it easier to recruit specialists in future. And last but not least, research and teaching at the University Hospital will also benefit. The Supervisory Board of Magdeburg University Hospital therefore expressly supports this cooperation."

In May 2023, the University Medical Center Magdeburg and the Lostau Lung Clinic of the Pfeiffer Foundations signed a separate cooperation agreement in which they agreed to work closely together in terms of expertise and personnel. This agreement is already bearing fruit, including the successful linking of thoracic surgery at both institutions and the close collaboration at the University Lung Center of the UMMD.
