University Medicine Magdeburg and the clinics of the Pfeiffer Foundations expand their cooperation
In line with the recently concluded co-operation agreements between Magdeburg University Medicine and the two hospitals of the Pfeiffer Foundations, University Medicine is taking on further important services.
As an extension of the recently agreed cooperation with the Klinikum in den Pfeifferschen Stiftungen and the Lungenklinik Lostau, University Medicine Magdeburg has signed a contract to take over laboratory diagnostic and microbiological services as well as services in the field of hospital hygiene.
The two site laboratories in the hospitals of the Pfeiffer Foundations will be retained and will also be advised by the University Medical Centre Magdeburg with regard to the transfer of the corresponding services to the University Medical Centre Magdeburg. At the same time, the central laboratory of the University Medical Centre will serve as a backup laboratory for the Pfeiffer Foundations in the event that one or both site laboratories are unavailable. It also offers additional support in the area of specialised diagnostics.
Background
In May 2023 and January 2024, the University Medical Centre Magdeburg (UMMD) signed a cooperation agreement with the Lostau Lung Clinic and the Pfeiffer Foundation Hospital in Magdeburg. In addition to the representatives of the institutions involved, Saxony-Anhalt's Finance Minister Michael Richter and the Minister for Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Equality Petra Grimm-Benne also signed the agreement as representatives of the Supervisory Board of University Medicine.
These contracts enable the institutions to fulfil the requirements of the hospital reform and the Saxony-Anhalt state hospital report. They can network more closely in terms of expertise and personnel and develop a cross-hospital range of services in certain specialist areas. The overarching goal of this partnership is to improve patient care in accordance with the care levels in order to guarantee needs-based, high-quality medical care.
The Pfeiffersche Stiftungen and Magdeburg University Medicine would like to make a long-term contribution to improving healthcare in the region with this pioneering co-operation.
