University Medicine Magdeburg certified as a cochlear implant care facility
The University Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Magdeburg, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Martin Durisin, was first certified by ClarCert for its Cochlear Implant Center on November 27, 2023. This award confirms compliance with the highest structural and process quality standards in accordance with the guidelines of the German Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine, Head and Neck Surgery e.V. for cochlear implant care for adults and children.
Prof. Durisin emphasized the importance of this certification: "This recognition confirms our leading expertise and our high level of quality in cochlear implant care, a central area of ear, nose and throat medicine at Magdeburg University Hospital."
The clinic offers individually tailored solutions for various hearing impairments - from mild impairment to complete hearing loss - including conventional and bone anchored hearing aids, active middle ear implants and cochlear implants. An interdisciplinary team works with patients and their families to decide on the optimal treatment method. This customized treatment enables even deaf or severely hearing impaired people to hear again and participate in social life. The cochlear implant, the first functioning sensory prosthesis in routine clinical practice, is used when recovery of the sensory cells in the cochlea is no longer possible and conventional hearing aids do not bring any significant improvement. People of all ages, from newborns to senior citizens, as well as those with unilateral hearing loss or in combination with a hearing aid, can benefit from a cochlear implant.
The certification recognizes the ENT Clinic Magdeburg for its expertise in cochlear implantation since 1992 and is of significant relevance both for the University Medical Center Magdeburg and for the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
