Prizes of the Faculty of Medicine
Best Doctoral Student
According to the Ehrungsordnung §4 the OVGU awards the Kommission zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses of the faculty in November of the respective current year upon the proposal of the Commission for the Promotion of Young Academics. The minimum requirement for doctoral candidates is the overall grade "summa cum laude". The prize is endowed with a monetary amount of 500 EURO. An application or proposal is not required.
Young Researcher Award
The Medical Faculty of Magdeburg annually awards two junior research prizes of 5,000 EURO each in the categories: "Clinical Research" and "Basic Biomedical Research". Applications must be submitted to the Research Department by 01 November each year (cut-off date).

German Study Award of the Körber Foundation
The competition is aimed at doctoral students of all disciplines who have submitted an excellent dissertation of particular social significance and is endowed with up to 25,000 euros.
Walter Krienitz Doctoral Award
For the best dissertation in the field of gastric and tumor disease research, an annual prize has been awarded since 2014 by the „Walter-Krienitz-Verein zur Förderung der Medizin e.V.“ is offered. The prize serves to promote the advancement of knowledge in medicine as well as to commemorate the Halberstadt physician Walter Krienitz, a pioneer of gastric bacteriology who reported on spiral-shaped bacteria in the stomach contents of a patient several decades before the recognized discovery of Helicobacter pilory. The doctoral prize is endowed with a monetary amount of 500 EURO.
The decision on the awarding of the prize is made by the Kommission zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses As a rule, only completed theses that have received at least the grade "magna cum laude" will be considered. An application or proposal is not required.
