Prostate cancer mainly affects men in the second half of life. The probability of developing the disease increases with age. Around 60,000 people are affected every year, which is partly due to increasing life expectancy. There are various forms of prostate cancer, from less aggressive to life-threatening types. A considerable proportion of the diseases, which are usually detected through early detection, can even only be monitored.

The Society of Urology has recently published new S3 guidelines stating that patients at favorable risk should undergo surveillance only, without immediate surgical or radiotherapeutic measures. This means that many men may be able to avoid unnecessary treatment and the associated side effects.

During the telephone forum, the experts will explain why active surveillance is now the preferred method in low-risk cases. They will also be available to answer questions on the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, with a particular focus on the latest innovations. These include, in particular, magnetic resonance imaging, ExactVu ultra-high resolution ultrasound and PSMA-PET/CT. The common goal of all this technology and the doctors is to always do as much as necessary, but as little as possible.
