Recognition of previous studies
Who is responsible for the recognition of my previous studies abroad?
If you have already studied medicine or a similar subject in a country other than Germany, you should first submit officially certified copies of your certificates from this study program and your university entrance certificate with a certified translation to the following office in order to receive recognition:

What is the application procedure?
If the Landesprüfungsamt Düsseldorf recognizes your foreign academic achievements, you can apply online directly to Otto-von- Guericke University with the following documents.
The online application is usually activated 6 weeks before the application deadline.
You can apply here (German only).
Please send the printed and signed online application form as well as the following additional documents to the Deanery of Student Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine by the application deadline (winter semester: 15.07. / summer semester: 15.01. of the year):
1. printed and signed online application form
2. copy of the recognition certificate from the Landesprüfungsamt Düsseldorf
3. copy of your school leaving certificate
4. translations of all documents related to your education into German by sworn interpreters
5. knowledge of German: Officially certified certificate (see German language skills)
Please note: Certificates of attendance or confirmations of registration will not be accepted!
Only when these documents have been received by Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, your record will become a complete application.
It is recommended to keep a printout of this application for your personal records.
How likely is admission to a higher semester in Human Medicine?
Please note that there is a high number of applicants for very few study places.
Furthermore, applications for higher semesters are only considered if there are free study places in the respective semesters.
In recent semesters, the number of applications far exceeded the number of available study places.
This means that the probability of getting a place for a higher semester is very low.
For this reason, we initially accept simple copies of your documents for the online application.
However, should you be admitted, you will have to submit the original / officially certified copies and officially certified translations of all documents relating to your education into German by sworn translators for enrollment.
For higher semesters, it may also be possible to start in the summer semester.

What are the application deadlines and who can I contact for further information?
The application deadline for higher semesters is July 15 for the following winter semester and January 15 for the following summer semester.
