About the person
PD Dr Stefan Sammito, born in 1978, studied human medicine in Düsseldorf and Bochum. He completed his doctorate at the University of Mainz and his habilitation in Magdeburg. He is a specialist in occupational medicine and general medicine and holds additional qualifications in emergency medicine, sports medicine and nutritional medicine. As a professional soldier, he heads the Department of Experimental Aviation Medicine Research at the Air Force Centre for Aerospace Medicine in Cologne. He is also a visiting scientist at the University of Magdeburg and has headed the "Aerospace Medicine" and "Prevention and Health Promotion" working group in the Department of Occupational Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in Magdeburg since 2019.
His research focuses on the fields of occupational physiology, health promotion, prevention and aviation medicine. Among other things, he investigates the stresses and strains on crew members during ultra-long-haul flights. Joint research studies with the European Space Agency (esa) aim to optimise emergency medical diagnostics on board the ISS and during upcoming long-term missions to the moon and later to Mars.
