About the person
PD Dr rer. nat. Sven Halbedel, born in 1978, studied human biology in Greifswald. He completed his doctorate in Göttingen and his habilitation at the University of Magdeburg. Halbedel has been working for the Robert Koch Institute in Wernigerode since 2009. He has been head of a research group there since 2011 and deputy head of the listeria consultation laboratory since 2019.
In his research, the microbiologist focuses on the molecular basis of cell division and cell wall biosynthesis of Gram-positive bacteria as well as the molecular epidemiology and pathogenomics of Listeria monocytogenes. He also specialises in research into the perception and detoxification of novel antimicrobial agents.
