UMMD becomes the official training center for simulation courses in the fields of neuroradiology and interventional radiology

21.03.2024 -

The "Hands-On" simulator course series for beginners in interventional neuroradiology and the course module on stroke therapy will take place in Magdeburg in 2024.

The German Society of Neuroradiology (DGNR) and Young Neuroradiology, in cooperation with the German Society of Interventional Radiology and Minimally Invasive Therapy (DeGIR), are offering the "Basic Interventional Neuroradiology" course in 2024, which includes practical exercises on hands-on simulators. Senior physician Dr. med. Roland Schwab from the University Clinic for Neuroradiology Magdeburg (Head: Prof. Dr. med. Daniel Behme) has been the spokesperson for "Young Neuroradiology" since autumn 2023. He has succeeded in establishing the "Hands-On" simulator course series for newcomers to interventions and the "Stroke Therapy" course module in Magdeburg in the future. Both courses will be offered three times in 2024. Magdeburg University Hospital will thus become an official DGNR and DeGIR training center.

The event is aimed at prospective neuro-interventionalists with and without a focus on neuroradiology. The one-and-a-half-day hands-on part will be held at the research campus of Magdeburg University Hospital. The course concept also includes a mandatory webinar prior to the hands-on part.

Prof. Behme and Dr. Schwab are responsible for the scientific management of the course series. Experienced tutors and speakers from all over Germany are involved in the program design. The practical training takes place on Mentice simulators and flow models. "Among other things, this series of courses focuses on mastering common vascular access methods in theory and practice as well as a sound knowledge of aortic and supra-aortic vascular anatomy," say the two scientific directors.

The University Clinic for Neuroradiology Magdeburg deals with the diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of diseases and changes to the nervous system, i.e. the brain and spinal cord, peripheral nerves and directly adjacent structures (e.g. the spinal column). State-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic methods and equipment are available to patients. In addition to diagnostic neuroradiology, the clinic is characterized by its great expertise in minimally invasive neuroradiological therapy, both in the emergency treatment of strokes and in the elective treatment of aneurysms, vascular stenoses and vascular malformations.
