Research Profile

The strength of Magdeburg University Medical Center (UMMD), an alliance of the Otto von Guericke University Medical Faculty and Magdeburg University Hospital, is the close link between research, teaching and patient care.

The research profile of the UMMD is characterized by the two research focuses

  • Immunology including molecular medicine of inflammation and
  • Neuroscience.

UMMD's future concept "Precision Medicine: Intervention and Prevention" (P:IP) is intended to bring the main research areas and other research activities closer together in close cooperation with other faculties at Otto von Guericke University, thus contributing to the development of the cross-sectional field of medical technology. P:IP will thus play a long-term role in the future-oriented and personalized treatment of all diseases.

These research approaches are complemented by diverse activities in the five designated disease-oriented research areas:

  • Translational clinical oncology,
  • Musculoskeletal, reconstructive surgery,
  • Cardiovascular Medicine,
  • Infectious Medicine and
  • Rare Diseases.

Translational research - from the research laboratory to clinical application and vice versa ("bench-to-bedside" and "bedside-to-bench") - at UMMD thus makes an important contribution to being able to offer the best possible individualized therapies. Further information on the diverse research activities at UMMD can be found on the pages of the clinics and institutes, on the Saxony-Anhalt research portal, and on the pages of the graduate and research centers.
